At last! A piece of software that makes creating professional looking videos to promote your products… inform your readers… or wow colleagues in presentations, a simple, pain-free process

I absolutely hate making videos…

I can’t do it. I seem to have some weird mental block.

I’ve spent hours playing around on Camtasia (one of the market leaders) and iMovie (Apple’s offering) and find the whole process baffling and daunting.

That’s why I was interested to hear about Video Maker FX.

I’m always super wary about any tool or piece of software that claims it makes things simpler, but so many people had recommended I take a look at this that I decided to give it a go. I’m thrilled I did. This really is the business.

Before I go into the ins and outs, let me quickly show you what you can create using this software. In true Blue Peter style – “here’s one I made earlier”.

You’ll have to excuse the psychedelic colour changing throughout and the cheesy music, I wanted to try and show as many different styles as possible!

Here’s how it works…

The first thing to say, is that I made the video above without reading any instructions. It’s that intuitive and user friendly.

It’s a little bit like using Powerpoint, but a million times easier. Each scene is a ‘slide’ and for each slide you can choose from a dropdown of different options (styles and approaches etc). You then just tap in the words you want and that’s it!

To create the next one you just click ‘Add slide’. Editing is easy and you just drag and drop where you want each slide to go as you go along – so reordering, deleting and adding takes seconds. You can add music if you want to. They give you a bunch of jaunty, royalty free tracks to choose from, or you can add your own.

There are lots more features you can customise if you want to but they don’t get in the way of the creation process, which I think is key. Too many software programmes clutter your screen with so many options that you’re left paralysed from the start. What set this software apart for me, is that the whole thing felt like a very intuitive, step-by-step process.

What kind of videos can you use Video FX Maker for?

This is ideally suited for anyone looking to…

- Promote a product or service

- Pitch an idea (without resorting to a boring looking slideshow)

- Create professional looking video presentations

It’s not really for creating family videos – you’re best off using something like Adobe or iMovie for that. If your after live, onscreen video tutorial software – where you can record your activity on the screen and highlight different areas – then Camtasia is still the go-to software. I should point out that you can add custom clips to Video Maker FX (so you could combine the two) but then you’re starting to get into more ‘pro’ territory.

For creating promotional videos or presentation videos then Video Maker FX really can’t be beaten.

Tips and advice when creating videos

1. Write out a script before you start creating your video

The key to making any successful presentation is to have a strong, coherent narrative. I’ve seen videos made on this (and other video software tools) where the author has just relied on fancy graphics. It looks great but doesn’t hit the sale – because the end user doesn’t know what it’s about.

2. Quickly duplicate slides by pressing the little square icon next to each slide

You can duplicate the last slide you where working on if you want the next part of your video to have a similar look or style. This saves you time because you can just overwrite the text in the boxes provided and then move on to the next one.

3. Don’t be afraid to mix things up!

One of the reasons this video software is proving so popular with bloggers, Internet marketers and product creators is because you can make videos which look different from the usual mind-numbingly boring slideshow style presentation videos (where every slide looks the same).

Make sure you take full advantage of the different styles on offer and play around with pacing. It’s so quick to make videos using this you can easily split test your ideas and hone in on the perfect message.
