Frequently Asked Questions

Should I buy a product if it hasn’t got a money back guarantee?
The simple answer is no. If the product you’re buying hasn’t got a money back guarantee you won’t be protected if anything goes wrong. Where applicable, Whatbizopp reviews will always indicate whether a product has a money back guarantee or not.
How can I protect myself when buying products?
If you have bought a product which does claim to give you your money back and they fail to do so, paying on your credit card can provide added protection.

Credit card companies can protect you if you have bought a product for over £100. By law your credit card company has to pay out for the full value of the item even if you’ve only paid a deposit on it. For example if you’ve paid £100 deposit for a brand new car and then the car dealer goes into liquidation before they’ve delivered it, it’s the credit card’s responsibility to give you your money back. All you need to do is make a section 75 claim which you’ll be able to do by contacting your credit card provider directly.

Will Paypal protect me for downloadable products or services?
No. Unfortunately PayPal Buyer Protection does not protect you against services or products you have downloaded (for example eBooks) and will therefore not issue you a refund. Check out Paypal’s user agreement for more details on this.

I want to start email marketing. Who do you recommend I use for broadcasting?
There are many email broadcasting services available for Internet Marketers wanting to build an email list and then send emails out to their list.

We often recommend two companies called Aweber and MailChimp.

Both of these companies are very cheap (if not free) to begin with and we recommend them because they have a good level of customer service and an easy-to-use system of managing email lists (creating the forms you need to add on to a webpage to create email capture pages etc.)

I want to set up a website. Who do you recommend I use for hosting it?
Of course, there are many many reputable hosting companies out there, and you’re free to use any hosting company you want. But because of various features and services available with their hosting packages we often recommend 123-reg.

One of the reasons for this is that 123-reg hosting comes with a simple WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) editor for websites that means you can create simple pages easily and doesn’t require you to have any technical skills.

If you register with someone else, that’s fine and many offer similar services.

I keep seeing ‘FTP’ when trying to find out how to get a website online. What does it mean?
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is simply a way to move and exchange all types of files (including webpages) over the Internet and up and download them from the Internet. Whether you know it or not, you most likely use FTP all the time.

The most common use for FTP is actually to download files from the Internet.

But, as someone interested in making money online, probably the reason you are interested in FTP is that it gives us the ability to transfer files back-and-forth online which makes FTP essential for anyone creating a web page.

To make an FTP connection to a site (which you’ll need to do to upload files) you are best to download a dedicated FTP software program, referred to as an FTP ‘Client’.

An FTP Client is software that is designed to transfer files back-and-forth between two computers over the Internet. It needs to be installed on your computer and can only be used with a live connection to the Internet.

I personally use one called CyberDuck but the most popular one is probably Filezilla.

I’ve started email marketing. How many people do I need on my database to make money?
The general rule in this type of business is that 1,000 customers is the magic figure, after which it’s game-on. But again it’s not an exact science.

You could have a list of 10,000 names that make less income than a list of 3,000. Why? Because the quality of names vary, sometimes you get more buyers than non-buyers on your list, and sometimes it’s the other way round, some niches can have higher income rates (although the flipside of this is that you get more unsubscribes)

Sometimes it’s a matter of luck and timing (depending on what’s in the news, the ups and downs in popularity of various types of service or product). What you’ll find with experience is that sometimes you can sell lots of products for very little residual income then – wham – you get a “spike” product, which means something hits a nerve with your readers and it will sell loads very quickly and make most of your annual income. These are hard to predict in advance, but wonderful when they come!

I’m setting up a part-time business. Do I need to register with the taxman?
Within 3 months of you earning money you should register with HRMC who are at this website: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/index.htm

Don’t do anything until then. You don’t need to set up your own business for this but you will need to declare any earnings at the end of the tax year so they’ll need to know who you are. Here’s some more useful info for you:

I’m buying a domain, do I need to buy the .com AND the .co.uk?
It’s always a good idea, if possible, to buy both to protect your business, otherwise someone could come and set up the same domain name as you.

You don’t need to buy hosting for all the addresses you buy. If you use the .com for your site the other ending (e.g .co.uk) should be bought in order to prevent someone else from setting up a rival site on a very similar domain.

I’ve just started email marketing. Why do my marketing messages go to the junk folder?
Try using different email addresses from different email providers (Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail etc). Maybe ask some friends to sign up and then see if the same thing happens to them.

It may just be you have strict security settings and they are blocking the email.

Check your spam score in your email broadcasting account. You may need to adjust your autoresponder and take out any spam trigger words to get your score down.

If you are still having problems, contact your broadcast provider.

How can I build up traffic to my website when starting a new online business?
Article writing can be an extremely effective way to build up traffic to your website – or a squeeze page. You should ensure that your articles are keyword rich so that they get picked up by the search engines. Ezine Articles – www.ezinearticles.com – is a top ranking article directory and is the one you should submit your articles to.

Bear in mind that you will need to regularly submit articles to get the best out of this method. Make sure you include a short bio at the end of each article directing people to your landing page, preferably offering them something for free when they get there in exchange for signing up.

How can I take payments on a WordPress website?
Wordpress is great for anyone who wants to setup up a professional, easy-to-use website and we can highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get a site online quickly and with minimum fuss.

You can take payments on a WordPress website using something called a Plugin. There are a few to choose from. This one called ‘Get Shopped’ (http://getshopped.org/) comes recommended, especially if you’re using your website to sell your own products.

However, if you’re looking to monetise your website (by acting as an affiliate for example) you may not need to worry about an ecommerce plugin and could be better off using a product specific one instead.

Where can I find cheap books to sell on Amazon?
Good question! Charity shops and car boots sales are great for one off books, rare books and small quantities. If you want to find cheap books to sell on Amazon in larger quantities however you will need a reliable wholesaler and be able to hold a greater inventory.

Research is the key here – try doing some research online using Google if there is a specific genre of book you wish to sell, for example, educational books, fiction, non-fiction and so on.

You can also take a look at The Trader – this is a magazine (available online and as a hard copy from newsagents) that is full of wholesale suppliers – many of whom don’t actually advertise online.

What’s the easiest way to make money online for newbies?
Obviously this is a tricky question to answer because one person’s idea of the ‘easiest’ way to make money online might be completely different from someone else’s.

Even if you’re just starting out, there are a huge range of opportunities you can look at – many of which you’ll find featured in articles on this site. I especially like eBay and think it is the easiest way for anyone to make money online. Why? Because it’s easy to set up, instant and there are so many places to get products that you really are spoiled for choice. My personal favourite sourcing method is local auctions but I know that does not suit everyone.

Dropshipping is also a good way to work, where you promote another person’s goods and they send products direct to your buyers. Then you don’t have to spend any money until you’ve already sold something yourself, and been paid. If I were you I would look round your local high street and see if any shop owners might want help to sell their goods.
