I'll keep it brief today because, as promised, I have a free video for you. This is the first of two videos in which I discuss how to use Google Analytics. If you're already using Analytics, I apologise and hope that the second video, next week, in which we delve further in to how to best use analytics, will give you some useful insights.
How to Use Google Analytics: The Basics
In this first video we look at how to get set up on Analytics. But before I show you where to go to watch I’d better explain the WHY of it all...
In case you're not familiar with it, Google Analytics is an AMAZING (and free) tool that you can use to track a mass of valuable information about the way visitors interact with your website/ any individual page you choose to install it on.
Analytics is free (!) and allows you to pinpoint how visitors find your website, which pages visitors are clicking on the most, what keywords people are using to get your site and loads more.
All of the data Analytics gives you for free allows you to make informed decisions about where to focus your resources (be that time or money). E.g. if you're using social networks, you can see if Facebook or Twitter is driving more traffic to your site. And then, of the more successful, you could see what type of content that traffic likes.
If you then focus your efforts on creating a more effective social strategy to drive traffic and get more content of the type that proves popular with that audience, you’ll have yourself a much more successful site. Fine-tune that again and again and you have something very special.
As I said last week, this year I think we all need to put a big focus on data. I think everything to do with an online business should be tracked. Once you’re collecting data, you can then analyse it (and this doesn't need to be time consuming or difficult) and use that info to make the necessary adjustments, which will dramatically increase your online success.

Look out for video 2 next week and do let me know what you think and if you have any questions.
