This involves creating your own trading system. Ford starts by explaining the three main methods of approaching trading. The first is trading with discretion. This method largely involves getting a feel for the markets, sometimes involving gut feelings or intuition. The second method is to use trading strategies. This involves using a set of patterns or general set ups, looking for high probability opportunities, but leaving the door open for an element of discretion in applying these strategies. Ford’s book is an excellent reference guide to the whole process of system creation, pointing out many of the pitfalls that befall most people. There are some sound principles on show, with practical walk-throughs to aide your learning.
